Governing Mayor of Berlin – Senate Chancellery

Our client is the Governing Mayor of Berlin, represented by the Senate Chancellery. It acts as a central strategic management unit and supports individual administrative units (senate administrations, districts) in improving evidence-based administrative management throughout the city. The focus is on joint performance commitments to Berlin's citizens and the economy.  The organization has awarded a long-term framework agreement for BI software licenses with implementation and continuous managed service of the cloud infrastructure. The software is used as an internal platform for data visualization and analysis for the management of public offices.

Customer situation

  • The customer had not previously used a standardized, central business intelligence tool for data visualization
  • Distributing and displaying general information and statistical data was difficult to implement manually
  • The new solution needed to be suitable for public and internal user access
  • High cloud security standards according to GDPR and BSI had to be met
  • There was a lack of data protection, deletion, role and rights concepts that needed to be developed
  • Requirements and K.O. criteria regarding accessibility in the public sector had to be met by the new solution

Procedure

  • Collaborative design of a strategic roadmap
  • Design and implementation of an integrated Tableau Server landscape
  • Setup and management of Tableau Server instances in the Open Telekom Cloud
  • A data protection concept in accordance with GDPR was created and implemented with the customer's specialist departments
  • An accessibility assessment was carried out and improvements implemented
  • M2 supported the creation of dynamic, interactive dashboards
  • Training programs for self-service analytics and dashboard design were carried out

Project result

  • Successful implementation of a secure data visualization environment within the local administration network
  • Automated cloud configuration and Tableau deployment via Blue-Green process and Terraform API
  • Operation of the Tableau Server in a multi-zone architecture in Germany for increased reliability
  • Continuous monitoring and management of the infrastructure and the Tableau application
  • Coordinated data protection concept according to DSGVO
  • State-of-the-art dashboards for the visualization of data analyses
