M2 Receives the Amazon QuickSight Service Delivery Designation

An accolade you can't simply buy.

Why an award for Amazon QuickSight has more to do with open data, data-driven government, and the public sector than you might think at first glance.

M2 has received the AWS Service Delivery Designation for Amazon QuickSight. At first, that might sound like just another badge in an AWS partner's portfolio. But anyone who understands what stands behind this program quickly realizes: this designation is not a marketing label — it is the result of rigorous technical validation by AWS Solutions Architects.

The AWS Service Delivery Program evaluates partners on deep technical expertise, demonstrated customer success, and consistent adherence to AWS best practices for a specific service. This includes architecture reviews conducted by AWS, documented customer references, and proof that the partner not only implements the respective AWS service but also operates it successfully in complex production environments.

For M2, this means concretely: our work with Amazon QuickSight — from implementation and dashboard design to embedding it into existing applications — has been reviewed by AWS and found to be excellent, based on real customer projects rather than a collection of certificates.

The Trigger: Making Data More Usable for Subject-Matter Decisions

As part of a project for the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Equality of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (Ministerium für Arbeit, Soziales, Gesundheit und Gleichstellung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt), a modern analytics and reporting platform was built that centrally consolidates health and care data from various sources, makes it regionally comparable, and gives subject-matter departments faster access to it.

The goal was to support existing evaluation processes and to prepare relevant information so that it could be analyzed interactively and visualized clearly. Amazon QuickSight was used for the technical implementation.

M2 supported the ministry as an implementation partner in the design, execution, and embedding of the solution into the relevant business context.

Why the Public Sector Is Rethinking Its Approach

Many German state authorities and municipal statistical offices still rely on InstantAtlas for their health atlases, district monitors, or election atlases. However, since its acquisition by Esri UK, the licensing model and strategic direction have changed fundamentally. Publicly deploying dashboards has become considerably more expensive and complicated — a contradiction to the goal of making data accessible with low barriers and without obstacles.

On top of that come structural limitations: on-premises infrastructure with high maintenance overhead, error-prone data imports via CSV and Excel, limited flexibility in visual design, and fragmented, decentralized procurement without a nationwide framework. All of this stands in contrast to what modern data communication in the public sector needs to deliver.

Amazon QuickSight offers a counterpoint here: cloud-native, scalable, GDPR-compliant with data hosting in the EU — and, in the future, additionally securable via the AWS European Sovereign Cloud in the Brandenburg region. Add to that a feature that makes the real difference: with the AI agent Amazon Q, even non-technical users can ask complex questions in natural language and immediately receive visual answers — a paradigm shift for the democratization of government data.

What Makes Amazon QuickSight So Relevant in the Public Sector?

QuickSight is a fully managed, AI-powered BI platform with no server infrastructure to manage and a pay-per-session model. For the public sector, this results in a unique profile:

  • Cost efficiency: Usage-based billing instead of rigid licensing costs — ideal for government bodies with fluctuating user numbers and limited IT budgets.
  • Embedding in open data portals: QuickSight dashboards can be embedded directly into citizen portals, specialist applications, and open data platforms via SDK and APIs. Data reaches people where it's needed — publicly accessible and without barriers.
  • Real-time updates: Especially during pandemic situations or in health reporting, the ability to update data instantly is a strategic advantage.
  • Scalability: From ten to ten thousand users — QuickSight scales automatically without the need to provision infrastructure.
  • Data sovereignty: The AWS Frankfurt region (eu-central-1) keeps data within Germany. In the future, the Sovereign Cloud in Brandenburg will offer additional safeguards for government agencies and operators of critical infrastructure (KRITIS).
  • AI-powered analysis with Amazon Q: Natural-language queries, automatic visualizations, and ML-based anomaly detection — even for subject-matter staff without technical expertise.

What Sets M2 Apart as a QuickSight Partner?

The AWS Service Delivery Designation confirms not just that M2 can implement Amazon QuickSight — it confirms that we do it correctly, according to AWS's architectural standards. What matters here is a different perspective on business intelligence: QuickSight is not understood as an isolated dashboard tool but as part of an end-to-end data architecture on AWS.

What does that mean in practice? M2 integrates QuickSight directly into existing data landscapes — from Amazon S3, Redshift, and Athena to on-premises systems. As an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner with the additional AWS Systems Manager Delivery Competence, M2 now covers both the BI and analytics layer and operational cloud management with validated expertise.

For customers — particularly from the public sector, the KRITIS sector, and DAX-listed companies — this brings a concrete benefit: they can search the AWS Partner Solutions Finder specifically for partners with exactly this specialization. Technical quality here is not simply claimed — it is validated by AWS.

The Open Data Effect: Why BI and Open Data Belong Together

Open data is still a field under development in Germany. Saxony-Anhalt has joined GovData and is working on a comprehensive open data strategy. But open data alone creates no value — only visualization, analysis, and embedding into decision-making processes turn raw data into usable information.

This is exactly where the overlap lies: QuickSight is ideally suited not just to display open data holdings, but to bring them to life through embedded dashboards on citizen portals and within government specialist applications. Moving from on-premises tools like InstantAtlas to a cloud-native platform is far more than a simple tool switch — it marks a fundamental step toward standardized, interoperable data platforms, fully in line with Germany's national data strategy (Bundesdatenstrategie).
