01 Modernization

A Modern Data Platform
for Better Decisions

Today, public administrations don't just need to provide data — they need to make it understandable, secure and efficient to use.

On behalf of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health and Equality of the State of Saxony-Anhalt (Ministerium für Arbeit, Soziales, Gesundheit und Gleichstellung des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt), a modern analytics and reporting platform was developed that centrally consolidates health and care data from various sources, makes it comparable across regions, and gives specialist departments faster access to it.

Using AWS and Amazon QuickSight, a scalable, future-proof environment was created that increases transparency and makes data-driven decision-making easier.

A central data platform for transparent, scalable analytics.

02 Solution

Scalable Analytics
on AWS with QuickSight

Together with M2, a scalable solution was built on AWS using Amazon QuickSight. Data and linked documents are centrally provisioned on Amazon S3. AWS Glue crawlers, the Data Catalog, and Athena form the foundation for structured querying and further processing, while Amazon QuickSight builds on this to enable interactive dashboards and reports.

Within the project, M2 was responsible for the infrastructure, custom QuickSight training, and dashboard development — from data modelling through to the finished citizen-facing dashboard.

With the new platform, the State of Saxony-Anhalt now has a scalable, cloud-based BI solution that largely automates data preparation and visualization. Health and care data can be centrally analyzed, visualized in an understandable way, and made available to target audiences through interactive dashboards and reports.

Employees can independently design, update, and publish dashboards and reports — a key step toward self-service BI. At the same time, the Ministry and other state and municipal authorities gain access to a shared, consistent information base. Citizens also benefit from direct, low-barrier access to relevant analyses and developments through published dashboards.

The platform thus sustainably strengthens the State of Saxony-Anhalt's strategic health monitoring. Relevant indicators are presented transparently and clearly, regional developments are made comparable, and information can be used specifically for decision-making, reporting, and public communication. What began as the replacement of an outdated solution has become a modern, scalable foundation for decision-making — for public administration, professional audiences, and citizens alike.
